1. Click the link above and enter your product key when prompted, then save kana-win-v0.9.2.zip.
2. Find the downloaded kana-win-v0.9.2.zip, right-click it, and choose Extract All → Extract.
3. Open the extracted Kana Sim folder and double-click kana.exe to play.

If Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" warning

This is the SmartScreen notice mentioned below — it appears for any new application. Here is how to get past it:

You only need to do this the first time you launch a new beta build.

Optional: create a desktop shortcut

1. Right-click kana.exe. On Windows 11, first click Show more options.
2. Choose Send to → Desktop (create shortcut).

macOS by default blocks applications frmo running that are not distributed through the App Store or "notarized" by Apple. Notarization requires registering with Apple's developer program, and Apple does not permit certain content in that ecosystem — a game that depicts caning is classified as "adult" and effectively shut out. That policy, not any problem with the game, is why the steps below are needed. Follow them once and you are good to go.

First, install Kana Sim

1. Download and double-click the kana.dmg file to open it.
2. Drag the Kana Sim icon into your Applications folder.
3. Open Applications in Finder.

macOS 14 (Sonoma) and earlier

1. Right-click (or Control-click) the Kana Sim icon and choose Open.
2. A warning about an unverified developer appears — this time it includes an Open button. Click it. You only need to do this once.

macOS 15 (Sequoia) and later

Apple tightened default blocking in in macOS 15 and removed the simple right-click → Open bypass, so a one-time setup is required:

1. Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities).
2. Type sudo spctl --master-disable and press Enter, then enter your admin password if prompted. Close Terminal.
3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
4. Under Allow applications downloaded from, choose Anywhere.
5. Double-click the Kana Sim icon. If a warning appears, right-click the icon, choose Open, and confirm.

Steps 1–4 only need to be done once. After that, Kana Sim opens normally.

To be clear: this process exists because of Apple's policies, not because of anything unsafe in Kana Sim. Apple attempts to force developers and users toward the App Store while barring adult content from it entirely. We would gladly distribute through the App Store if Apple allowed it.
