Kana Sim News & Updates

Since we launched the beta, we have been monitoring sales and overall interest in the game. We have also had the opportunity to engage with many people who are interested but have not purchased the game yet. These interactions have signaled to us that a major factor is holding Kana Sim back: the platforms it currently runs on, which are Windows and Mac.

While the Windows version is straightforward enough to download and run, the Mac version is not. It requires players to use the command line to bypass restrictions that Apple places on applications outside of the App Store. These restrictions are only becoming stricter over time.

Furthermore, a very large percentage of our current players are located in mainland China. Many people outside of China may not realize that a large majority of these Chinese players use mobile phones as their primary gaming devices. Likewise, many potential players in other parts of the world also use mobile phones first and foremost for gaming.

Unfortunately, porting Kana Sim to Android or iOS is problematic because Google and Apple do not allow adult-themed applications on their respective stores. We would face the same friction-inducing issues the Mac version of the game does now, likely even more so.

This situation has led us to consider an entirely new direction. For the past couple of weeks, we have been working on a low-key project to port the classic Discipline Master games to run directly and natively in a web browser on both desktop and mobile platforms. (You will hear more about this project in the near future!) Following that direction, and the success it has made, our team has started working on porting Kana Sim to run directly in any modern web browser as well.

We understand that a move to a web browser might raise questions. In the past, web-based games were often low tech efforts that signaled a downgrade in quality. However, the technical reality is very different today in October 2026. Modern browsers and devices possess incredible power, allowing us to deliver a complete, uncompromising port. We are not simplifying or downgrading Kana Sim in any way. In fact, we suspect you will be pleasantly surprised when you see exactly how our other games have transferred to the web. When you switch the browser player to fullscreen mode, the experience is almost identical to playing on Windows or Mac.

This transition actually offers significant benefits for privacy and flexibility. A web-based game does not require a visible installation on a shared household desktop computer. This setup allows you to play discreetly on highly private personal devices, such as a smartphone.

Additionally, we know how important saving your progress is. The web version will fully support both browser-based saves and the option to export your local save files directly to your device if you prefer.

This transition will delay development and ultimately postpone the version 1.0 launch. We anticipate that the first web-browser-based build will be ready sometime in November. We dislike delays as much as you do for this long running project. However, we feel that this effort to bring Kana Sim to a much wider audience gives the game the best chance for long term success.
